By observation, YMT is a region with mixed characteristics. Its appearance is relatively old when compare with places like TST and Central due to its densely organized residential buildings, mostly with high build-age and in need of repairing. It is obvious that the region itself is undergoing redevelopment as we can see old buildings ?being built in world-war period may be ?is being torn down and replaced with modern, high-rise residential blocks, making big contrast with the old and short existing blocks. This contrasting feeling is even stronger when you look towards the far end, facing the direction of Mongkok, where you can see the newly built Langham place, glazed with glass claddings and stands right at the end of the street. Commercial activities with historical values can still be found in the region, for example the fruit market, the jade market and the night hawkers at Temple Street. These commercial activities had adapted their own modes of living and developed special forms of architecture which indeed shaped the region itself. Aging of buildings seems to be a big problem in this region, and this is also true when talking about the residents. As a solution to that, small parks with shelters and greeneries were inserted into some deconstructed lots. This provides places of gathering for the aging residents and also some nice open spaces within this densely built region.
